NextCounsel User of the Month
Implementation and adoption of measures used in ensuring business continuity and accountability in a firm might not seem like a priority for you especially during the pandemic year but if there is anything this year has taught us, it is to plan for proper structuring in the legal space. Whether you’re a solo lawyer or a small firm, law firm strategic planning is more critical than ever now.
Strategic planning for law firms impacts their growth, which can mean surviving, struggling or worse, closing during a crisis.
Saving time and automating the entire process of the legal industry has always been the goal for NextCounsel. In over two years, we have dominated the legal industry in West Africa which has been tedious, challenging and exciting because who doesn’t like a good challenge.
However, once a month we put the spotlight on the individuals who make our hard work worth it i.e. Our super users of the month.
This month, I had the opportunity to have a conversation and to shine our light on a very delectable user.
This conversation gives you an overview of what she does and how the NextCounsel Application fits perfectly in the law firm.
Gift — Hi, can you kindly Introduce yourself, where you work and what you do?
Toyosi — My name is Oluwatoyosi Kukoyi. I work in the law firm of SimmonsCooper Partners as the information and library officer.
Gift — Wonderful, how about you tell us a bit about your experience with the NextCounsel application
Toyosi — NextCounsel application has been a work tool that makes most office tasks seamless
Gift — I find it interesting you used the word ‘seamless’, that’s a brief way to describe it. What NextCounsel feature is your favourite?
Toyosi — I particularly prefer the document assignment feature in the NextCounsel app.
Gift — With your designation, what do you spend the most time on?
Toyosi — I use the client creation, matter creation/assignment more
Gift — Okay great, let’s move to the legal industry, what do you think about the legal industry and the conversation surrounding legal technology?
Toyosi — Legal tech is here to make work life easier and seamless as against the misconception that it creates more difficulty to everyday tasks.
Gift — I’m glad to hear that because ultimately the goal of technology is to make lives better. Now, NextCounsel is always updating the system, what feature do you look forward to having on the app?
Toyosi — A feature I would like to see would be a book repository/library feature
Gift — Interesting! I am about to turn up the heat, What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve experienced in your line of work.
Toyosi — It has been a learning experience, so any ridiculousness is more of a steppingstone
Gift — You answered that question like a politician o, anyway, moving forward, if you had a magic wand, what’s the one thing you will change about the legal industry
Toyosi — Hmmm…. I would say a change in attitude to change (as the only constant in life is change)
Gift — What is one work culture you think other law firms should emulate from your firm?
Toyosi — The freedom to speak out and be heard by those at the top of the ring.
Gift — With all, you know now and on dealings with lawyers, what advice would you give your younger self.
Toyosi — Such advice would be to be more patient. Dealing with lawyers can be quite draining *smiley face*
Gift — Do you have any feedback for NextCounsel?
Toyosi — My feedback for NextCounsel would be for you to keep up the great work.
